Definition

What Yogamani is

A small school built around daily practice. Classes run every morning and evening in Tapovan; retreats run at the ashram and in Tapovan; yatras go into the Himalayas.

We teach in the Himalayan tradition: asana, pranayama, meditation, mantra and the philosophy that holds them together. Practice comes first. The certificate, when there is one, comes after.

Origin

Why it exists

People living in Tapovan needed a place to practise every day, with the same teachers and the same rhythm, rather than a different studio each week. Teachers who had trained in the Himalayan tradition needed somewhere to teach it properly.

Yogamani was started for both.

Founder

Yogaacharya Manish In his own words, in order

Manish grew up in Brij Kshetra, the land of devotion. His grandmother gave him his first practice: bhakti, mantra-japa and silence.

After school he moved to Gurgaon and lived the life most people live. He began visiting Rishikesh around 2017, helping Japanese seekers who came to study. In 2020 he left that life and went to Kedarnath, and spent almost three years there in sadhana, learning from his Guru, from saints and from the Himalayas themselves. He studied sound healing, Ayurveda and jyotish alongside yoga.

He came back and started Yogamani. He teaches in Hindi, English and Japanese.

Method

How we teach Three principles

Practice over certificates
01

Practice over certificates

You are taught to practise every day, not to collect a certificate. Students who want to teach are prepared to teach; students who do not are given a practice they can keep.

Sadhana over tourism
02

Sadhana over tourism

The Himalayas and the temples are not a backdrop. We go slowly, keep silence where silence belongs, and treat the places as they are treated by the people who live there.

Where we teach

Two places, one teaching

Daily classes and most courses are in our Tapovan shala. Residential trainings and retreats are at Phool Chatti Ashram on the Ganga.

Students

Who comes to Yogamani

Indian students, long-stay visitors in Rishikesh, and travellers from many countries. Japanese students have studied with Yogamani for years, and Manish teaches them in Japanese; there is a separate Japanese site for them.

Seva

Seva: what we do beyond teaching

Brahma Seva is our support for the sadhus of the Himalayas: food, warmth, medicine and the repair of simple shelters, given where it is needed. It is not charity and not a campaign. It is part of the practice.

Honestly

What we do not do

We do not run a resort. We do not sell luxury. We do not promise transformation in a week, and we do not claim to be the best yoga school in Rishikesh.

If that is what you are looking for, there are many schools here that will say it.
